Is the book always better?

My favorite cheesy and romantic movie is The Notebook which was originally a book written by Nicolas Sparks. Although the book was good, it is hard to capture the same emotion through text on a page rather than being able to see it acted out and the intense emotion, heartbreak, and love that was felt. I think that the movie was way better than the book because we got to see Allie and Noah's love story play out and all the twists and turns that occurred. I think the key to making a good book to movie adaptation is having an amazing cast and The Notebook definitely had that with Ryan Gosling, Rachel McAdams, and James Marsdon. There were so many changes in time and setting that it was much easier to follow in the movie. It is also easier to relate to emotions on the screen because it is easier to make it feel real since you are looking at real people instead of imagining it. Watching people feel emotion and go through dramatic events is much more powerful than just reading about it. Scenes such as Noah's time in the war watching his friend die or when Noah and Allie reunited and canoed through the lake with swans seemed much more emotional and powerful when watched instead of read.
